In FDW’s quest to highlight the awesomeness of ALL First Dogs, we have uncovered an interesting tidbit about one of Hollywood’s most famous First Dogs – Toto from “The Wizard Of Oz”. Apparently, Toto was actually a “girl” dog and not a “boy” dog. Even though Toto is clearly referred to as “he” throughout the film, they chose Terry, the Cairn Terrier, for the role of “Toto” as she gave the best audition. Terry’s trainer , Carl Spitz was paid $125/week for the use of Terry in the film – not bad money, especially if you’re not the one actually doing the work! Live! With Regis and Kelly have started an exciting week of “Top Dogs” yesterday and we think that First Dog Bo should be the headliner! But since our boy requires Secret Service protection and such, maybe he’ll be satisfied just catching the show at home in the White House. Besides, he knows that he is THE top dog!
